For Selena And Sin - Overdosed On You (CD)

For Selena And Sin
Overdosed On You
by Dimitris Kontogeorgakos at 10 December 2007, 2:17 PM

The story of this six-piece band started somewhere in 2004 when Pasi and Teemu got together to create calm, more emotional and Pop/Rock influenced music. I know that these music labels confused you and made you think if this is Pop, what the hell is it doing on Metal Temple?. Well, hold your horses and let me enlighten you a little bit by writing my thoughts about FOR SELENA AND SIN's debut that is released through Mascot Records.
Who's Behind The Door? is the first track of the album and pretty much describes the music in the band''s first discographic effort. This song is groovy and definitely influenced by SENTENCED's sound during the more Gothic-oriented Crimson era. Annika sings with a warm and crystal clear voice, presenting some minor Irish Rock influences especially in the higher pitches. The lead guitars lay down some pretty good solos and look towards the trademark sound of Gothic masters THE MISSION. The slower Lost Like Dreamers Are brings some depressive yet melodic tunes  while A Rain Tonight implements the classic Gothic Rock recipe with clean rhythm guitars, keyboard background sounds and catchy almost up-tempo chorus lines.
Completely unaware of their musical background, I can assure you that they sound experienced and present some pretty good ideas although they cannot be characterized as original. Personally, I really enjoyed THE GATHERING's influences in Ghost In The Family, the keyboard melodies in Jubileum Of My Sorrow or the faster Million Miles High.
In the bottom line, this is a very good debut album that will be welcomed by the fans of Gothic sound who are OK with FOR SELENA AND SIN's Rock attitude and direction.
