Splitting Tongues
by Chloe O'Brien at 22 March 2021, 6:10 AM

Formed in 2019 FRAUGHT are a band with influences from Sludge, Death Black and Doom Metal. They are from Dublin, Ireland. Their EP “Splitting Tongues” was recorded live, in Hellfire Studios, in Dublin. Members have previously been members with bands such as COLDWAR, WARPATH, WOUND UPON WOUND and SLAVE ZERO.

"Throne of Traitors" opens the album with a bang its heavy, busy and is a journey of chaos it has alternating tempos, with aggression interchanging with melody. Around the two-minute mark there is a great breakdown as the drums slow down and speed back up and the guitar riff added really adds to the grimness of the song. It ends and flawlessly transitions to track two.

"Empty vessel," when the strong bass line hits in the opening you can feel it throughout the body. The bass crescendos into a driving rhythm when the guitar joins in. It starts off slow on the guitar and drums and gets louder and crazier as it continues.  The vocals join in for a truly gritty death metal sound. The vocalist’s low growls are done perfectly. The low tuning of the bass and on the guitar creates such an abrasive sound.

"Fracture "is the longest song on the EP at almost 6 minutes, it is 6 minutes full of loud drums, brutal guitar riffs and the emotion from the growls are intense when put together the drums are aggressive, but the sound is unbelievably good for anyone who likes a heavy song to run to as its full of energy. It ends beautifully with a melody played on guitar accompanied by the drums and fades to a stop.

"Apex Leech," this song ends the EP with possibly the heaviest song on the EP. It opens with the ring of an electric guitar and the combination of the double kick, the chaotic vocals and the low guitar in the background creates a gloomy feeling.

FRAUGHT is a great addition to the Metal genre, their EP “Splitting Tongues” was impeccable for a one take recording. I look forward to new music from them and can see a good mosh pit at their show possibly in the future.
