Gideon – Out Of Control

Out Of Control
by Brad Pfundheller at 14 December 2019, 9:00 PM

GIDEON is a Christian Hardcore/Metal band hailing from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and they are here with their release of “Out of Control” which is out now via Equal Vision Records. First formed in 2008 and releasing their first self-titled EP two years later. GIDEON has really made a name for themselves in the global music scene over the past decade, and with this newest release they have yet to slow down and have managed to stay very busy.

The first track is just an introductory track and it’s titled “Welcome to S Town”, but the album really begins on the second song “Sleep” and what really stands out in this one the most is the hardcore vocals from Daniel McWhorter and the groovy and bouncy guitars behind him. “Take Me” is full of that angry passionate feeling you get when listening to hardcore music. “2 Close” features vocalist Drew York of STRAY FROM THE PATH and both vocalists deliver some amazing lines in the track. It’s a really well put together song.

“Southwind” begins fairly slowly and quietly but then the vocals enter and build you up to the guitar chugs and pulses in the verse. “Style” starts with some eerie production noises that eventually form into a beat that sounds pretty cool. “Life Without” starts with a bass line that’ll grab your attention and pull you into the song. The classic style that these guys go with makes it easy to bump your head along to. The guitar work in “Denial” is great throughout. “Out of Control” has an amazing breakdown towards the end of it. The final track on the record is “Bite Down” and it starts out just heavy right off the bat and stays that way through the entire thing. A great way to end the album.

Overall, after listening to “Out of Control” some might say that GIDEON sounds like your average hardcore band, but that is not true. These guys incorporate their own style into the genre with the music they push out. Which is probably why they’ve been successful this far. I would recommend adding “Out of Control” to your end of the year 2019 playlist, I know I’m going to.
