Independent one-man band
GOAT WORSHIP has released his third album “
Shore of the Dead” via
Xtreem Music April 26th, 2018. Having created
GOAT WORSHIP in 2013 and released an E.P.,”
Doomsday”, and debut album “
Blood and Steel” in 2016. This Brazilian native knows what he is doing. Stating he created the project to take on the sound of old
BATHORY, he has certainly done that, and
BATHORY’s playing is far from simple.
“Wolf” takes on a similar persona to that of
TIAMATs sound on
“The Astral Sleep.” A raw and gritty sound that has more high end then low and more thrash metal sound than death metal. As the open chords are strummed in
“Wolf” the relentless bashing of a snare is accompanied by cymbal crashes tucked away in the background and a whaling lead that is kept short and sweet.
“The Blood Countess” is dead on to
BATHORY’s “
Reaper.”
GOAT WORSHIP captured the sound that defined an era and was a turning point in extreme metal as the community embraced the formation of sub genre’s like death, black, and Viking metal.
“Final Solution”, is a moshers dream anthem full of speed metal drumming and tremolo picking. The wickedness in the high pitched snarling vocals paints the atmosphere in a hellish black filled with a raging torrent. The only downside on this track is the punch in overdub for the melodic, brief, and well played solo is more than obvious and not blended into the mix. The tone is different than the main rhythm guitar which makes it stand out so prominently.
GOAT WORSHIP is a conglomeration of old school 80’s influence all cranked out by one guy. Of course, that may make it more impressive that one guy learned every instrument and played them all live rather than relied on Pro Tools and programming.
“Shore of the Dead” captures a sound and a style based on
GOAT WORSHIPs deep-rooted love of metal and his passion is more than obvious while his homage to the greats should be recognized and praised.
