I’ve read a lot of shit lately from “experts” saying that
GODSMACK has” lost their originality” and are “playing radio rock” these days. These types of people are the problem with the music industry today. You think too much!!! Don’t think, just turn it on, turn it up and listen. Go tell your “expert” analysis to someone else, because to me,
GODSMACK play the same heavy arena rock that they have always played and continue to make great music, album after album. And judging by the size of the crowds at every one of their live show I’ve attended in the last few years, they’re following is as big or bigger than anyone in hard rock today.
With the release of their latest monstrosity,
“1000HP”,
GODSMACK have kept their lead foot firmly on the gas pedal and anyone that is a fan of hard rock will surely raise their horns high while listening to this one. When a band becomes one of the biggest acts in the world, the expectation to deliver a great album is often met with disappointment, but not here. This album is one of the best pure rock n’ roll albums of 2014 and delivers a heavy dose of power that
GODSMACK fans have become accustomed to.
“1000HP” is the first track on this offering and is their version of VH1’s “
Behind the Music”, documenting their journey from playing to crowds of a few, to playing sold-out arenas. This song is straight-up, classic
GODSMACK. From the thumping bottom end and driving guitars, to
Sully’s “in your face” vocals, this has the feel of
“Bad Religion” from their 1998 self-titled album
. “FML” (which stands for F*** My Life) is one of my favorites on the album and powers forward with the attitude and sound that has had fans buying their albums and tickets to their shows for years. “
Living in the Grey” has a
“Moon Baby” flow to it and is another one of my favorite tracks. The
“I Stand Alone” track on the album is
“I Don’t Belong” and is sure to be a crowd favorite from now on. I won’t go into every song but just know this; after a short hiatus,
“1000HP” proves that this group of Bostonians can still deliver the heaviness and will certainly have them back on top of the hard rock genre, playing to sold-out arenas around the world.
I’ve followed
GODSMACK from the very beginning and can say without hesitation that this album is one of their best releases to date. I’m tired of people trying to critique everything that comes out and compare it to something else. One of my favorite sayings is “If it feels good, do it”. And this one feels really good. If you’re a fan of
GODSMACK, you’ve already bought
“1000HP”, and if you’re just fan of anything heavy in general, then do yourself a favor and buy it now.
