Gorebag - Tethered to the Wicked Domain

Gorebag
Tethered to the Wicked Domain
by "Metal Mark" Garcia at 19 February 2022, 5:20 AM

Since the early days of the Second Wave of Death Metal (one can say that the beginning of this movement is the release of “Slowly We Rot”, “Realm of Chaos: Slaves to Darkness” and “Altars of Madness”, because these albums had a commercial praise and called attention to the genre), the disgusting gory themes came to be spread, as bands as CARCASS released albums as “Reek of Putrefaction” became a source of inspiration to many. And GOREBAG from Finland shows to follow such lyrical aspect on their first album, “Tethered to the Wicked Domain”.

Musically, they earn a massive influence of Brutal Death Metal with some aspects of Groove Metal. It’s nasty and crude, but with a good technical playing in many moments. But be prepared to be assaulted by extreme low tuned grunts (contrasting with the famous ‘dying pig’ screams) and with a massive low tuned instrumental sheath. Obviously, such form of music was done again and again in the past, but they show potential to work in such way. The production worked on a way that the album bears a sound quality similar to the old albums of Brutal Death Metal, with aspects inherited from the 90’s (as the instrumental tunes used for guitars and bass guitar). But some modern aesthetics is presented, as is easy to understand what’s being played.

It’s a disgusting musical blow what’s being offered to the fans, so be prepared for songs as “Decomposed Reanimation” and “Amputated and Refrigerated” (both songs are showing contrasts between tempos is a very good feature, and what a good work on bass guitar and drums), “Viscera Showers and Funky Funerals” (very good groove parts are created by bass guitar, but the brutal assault summoned by the guitars is very good), “Meat Grinder Blues” (some experimental touches heard on the beginning of the song can be improved in the future), and “From Nascency Toward Termination”. But be prepared, because it’s alive! “Tethered to the Wicked Domain” is a good release, but GOREBAG seems to have enough talent to dare to fly higher in the future.
