Green Desert Water - Black Harvest Award winner

Green Desert Water
Black Harvest

GREEN DESERT WATER are from Spain. This power trio plays great stoner rock. They come from a country that is gaining more and more respect from me because of the great music they are producing. “Black Harvest” is the third release by these guys, and to say it’s a good album is a massive understatement. When you first start listening to the opening tracks “Sacred Tree” and “Dead Sacred Tree” you have that feeling of BLACK SABBATH looking over your shoulder while you have WITCHFINDER GENERAL putting their stamp on the music. That also goes for the rest of the songs, but it’s most evident in the title track “Black Harvest”.

The rest of the album still has WITCHFINDER GENERAL playing the instruments, but the vibe has changed. This is more relaxed, with a lot more emphasis on the groove. When you add the feeling that the voice of Kike Sanchís is very reminiscent of LENNY KRAVITZ, the whole experience of “Black Harvest” changes significantly. All of a sudden you realise that yes, you are listening to a record that LENNY KRAVITZ could have made. Not only because of the sound, but also because the quality of the songs is absolutely mind-boggling.

To make the album sound even better they have recruited some extra people to help out. Especially Alvaro Barcena on backing vocals and Kent Stump on extra guitars. Getting to the end of the album, we stumble on the two best and diverse tracks, which are “Shelter of Guru” and “Soul Blind”. The latter is a mesmerising slow poking emotional tune that has you relaxing in your chair and listening to a very mellow song with enough heavy breaks, riffing and rough edges to keep up your interest. Bloody brilliant. “Shelter Of Guru” on the other hand is a hard rocking anthem with some variations in speed, but always maintaining the heaviness that makes this sound like LED ZEPPELIN with LENNY KRAVITZ on vocals. Marvellous!

This was always going to be one hell of a review, as the conclusion for me is that GREEN DESERT WATER has produced the best damn stoner rock album I ever heard with “Black Harvest”. This will draw you in immediately, as the quality on offer is such a cut above the rest. At least that explains why I just can’t stop listening to this gem. I hope you feel the same. Please check this out!
