Griffen - Linked In Eternity (CD)

Griffen
Linked In Eternity
by Grigoris Chronis at 02 June 2008, 9:32 AM

A remarkable Hard Rock/Metal piece this promo CD is, I must confess. Didn't know GRIFFEN in prior, but - 'surfing' a little bit to gather some initial info for the review - I was more than happy to see the Swedes include two members of legendary TORCH in their ranks, Tomi Peltonen and Kristian Huotari. Still, the blend of GRIFFEN is kinda away from the ‘retro' Metal likes, since…
… the promo CD here comprises of five songs into the modern Hard Rock/Heavy Metal mix. For a self-financed release, the production is more than excellent: all instruments are equal in the mix, while the sound is crystal clear and really pictures out the good work done in the (individual members') performing. Have not heard GRIFFIN's previous promo CD (2007), but this one is a good portion of fresh Hard 'n' Heavy stuff. I recalled the furious yet melodic guitars of the 80s American mainstream rockin' heroes 'updated' to today's standards (Pull's WINGER did cross my mind in a couple of tracks), I did fancy the European PRETTY MAIDS/LION'S SHARE Metal approach in the tempo changes, I guaranteed the classic mid-pace Metal ideals…the vocals of Jorgen Soderberg do vary from the harmonies of 'German-ish' melodic Rock to the passion of the Dio legacy and the up-to-date Northern Europe Metal pathways while - last but not least - the solos did hit me between the eyes. The Peltonen/Tornblom duet bears a great chemistry and really filled me up with some tremendous licks.
The average duration of each of these five songs is 5' approximately. Still, I did not feel bored at any time. The band has given its best as regards riffs consistency and multi-dimensional songwriting. They are heavy but they are - at the same - melodic. Really hope this band inks deal soon in order to have a normal debut album coming out.
