Grimoire – L’aorasie Des Spectres Rêveurs Award winner

Grimoire
L’aorasie Des Spectres Rêveurs

Ever experienced anything that blows you away from start to finish and through this you feel a sensation of exhilaration like no other? Well that is exactly how I felt listening to one man Black Metal act GRIMOIRE’s latest EP “L’aorasie Des Spectres Rêveurs”. There was one word I repeated to myself as the EP played and that was WOW!

GRIMOIRE hail from Quebec, Canada and I admit I was surprised to find it was a one man band; simply because I have listened to quite a few of them during my time as a journalist and they have often been a hit and miss. This one was a definite hit and I can definitely see this one succeeding in the dark shadowy pits of Black Metal.

The opening track “Tragédies Des Ombres” had me emersed immediately with its soft melody that reminded me of a tune from the Final Fantasy saga or The Legend Of Zelda. As soon as the volume turned up and the heavy distorted guitars were heard there was nothing anyone could do to take me away from this fulfilling listening experience.

I admired the way each song was made up of so many different components that broke up the tracks and allowed me to enjoy every beautiful aspect of one of Metal’s darkest genres. This EP also proves that beauty can be found in the gloomiest of places if you know where to look; the example I can give that proves this theory is the soft piano and choir voices which are then followed by the fast paced aggressiveness of the guitars, drums and harsh vocals. A Beauty and The Beast type technique which is my favourite.

Reading GRIMOIRE’s description on their website, which states “GRIMOIRE reveals the expression of a wandering, lonesome soul searching for the path to spiritual elevation” and given that have I just listened to this striking EP this statement is spot on.
