"Unconsciousness" is an angry and maniacal album released by GROTESKH, an Austrian Black Metal band through the local label of Noisehead Records. This album has all whatever it takes out of Hard Rock / Black and Death Metal riffing, dark atmosphere and a blend of various of classic Black Metal attributes. The cover is a dandy designed artwork: it consists some Sado-Masochistic views although it has a mysterious image rather than a clue.
“Bloodline” the short instrumental opening title, GROTESKH show 1:28 minutes of heavy riffs and hard songlike roots until “At Death” and “Realem Of Sorrow” hails to continue this path to lead to pure extreme materials jointly with Holytoxicomaniac’s melancholic shrieked vocals that created some art of melodic Black Metal. “Reek Of Betrayal” the longest one of the album and has various content in it, the first two minutes of melodious blackened riffs along with bass slaps in a presence of shrilled vocals, then inserting a deathly riffing taking place but suddenly everything falls down to a Doomish acoustic spiel that changes completely the tempo and asserts a new phenomenon of tranquility. Immediately the instant switch will wake you up from that dream and will escort you back to the Black Metal routine.
Despite everything, this project is blank of originality yet quite listenable at the same time. But this is only GROTESKH's debut album; one could never know that the future holds for them.
