Don’t know much about
HADDOCK except they’re four dudes from Sweden named
Gordon,
Jimmy,
Bob and
Gonzo (probably not their birth names I guess) and play a Stoner Rock sound that sits somewhere between
CORROSION OF CONFORMITY and
CLUTCH. I guess I don’t need to know their background to tell you if this release is any good. And
“Haddock” is actually quite enjoyable, showcasing some groovy, swinging riffs that are incredible infectious.
The undulating, grooving riffs are
HADDOCK’s greatest strength and will surely induce some head banging and foot tapping. Album opener
"Collision, Demolition" for instance has a big bluesy riff like something
CORROSION OF CONFORMITY might have pulled off during
“Deliverance”-era, it’s upbeat and downright catchy. Throughout the remaining four songs the four-piece sound clearly comfortable in doing what they're doing, flirting with classic, tried-and-true
SABBATH-inspired riffs that no matter how many times we’ve heard them before, it’s always nice to hear them again.
If you’re into Stoner Rock in the vein of
CLUTCH,
CORROSION OF CONFORMITY and
FU MANCHU,
“Haddock” is definitely worth taking a listen.
