Harm - Cadaver Christi Award winner

Harm
Cadaver Christi

Germany has long been a country known for its high quality metal, not only is the country the host of Metal's biggest festival, it has also produced some of the finest Metal bands in the past 25 years, and as we all know, the Germans love their Metal fast and heavy, so it was no surprise when I first clicked play on Berlin's own HARM debut "Cadaver Christi".

Ominous melody and a German monologue welcomes us to the opening track "My Name is Jack", the slow melody however quickly gives way to a brutal riff and Death Metal grunts which tell us exactly what we're in for. Things don't calm down for "Burn the Saints", while slightly slower than the opener, the song certainly doesn't fail to catch your ear. The title track takes me back to the old school of American Death Metal, and that's a good thing, it's been a long time since I've heard such energy and quality from a fresh face on the scene. "Blood for God" starts with a quick rhythm section opening with the band joining in. This is another fast number capturing the spirit of classic anti-Christian Death Metal.

I honestly can't really call this album original, since it has deep roots in the classic of American Death Metal, influences by bands such as DEICIDE, OBITUARY and the legendary DEATH are perfectly heard here, however, its lack of originally doesn't detract from its quality, the production is excellent, especially considering that this is a debut album, the songwriting is top notch, and this is without a doubt one of the better Death Metal albums released this year.
