Heaven Rain - Second Sun Award winner

Heaven Rain
Second Sun
by Angela "MetalDancer" Van Der Kreeft at 31 May 2012, 10:06 PM

HEAVEN RAIN is a band that was formed in 2006 in Bosnia by Goran Baštinac. He wanted to create original music inside the Progressive Metal genre combined with Power Metal. A wonderful thing to wish for, but actually getting that done is quite something different. I did find it listed under hard rock and oh my, was I in for a wonderful surprise when I did listen to the second full length album from HEAVEN RAIN called “Second Sun” released through MusicByMail.

As long as a band is using the personality of the band members to create music, instead of the personality of their ‘idols’, the band will have their own signature sound. Whether if we like it or not. A sound that might link to their influences, but at the same time their sound will be unique. HEAVEN RAIN does show that with their album “Second Sun”. Influences of other genres are clearly there, but they also just sound like themselves. The vocalist Miona Graorac adds to that with her own down to earth relaxed, but still beautiful voice.

The album “Second Sun” feels to me like a sound trip through the stormy weather of life build on a steady Metallic Rock. Progressive folks facing the wind and the whisperings of shadow places seen, moving through, overlooking it all and telling about it down to earth through the music lines given. Travelling with bus, boat and trains to get there, making that every song does have its own rhythm and sound.

“Second Sun” does show that HEAVEN RAIN contains skilled players in a natural flow that’s rocking on. The vocalist has a huge part inside this band, but she certainly does not stand alone. The band’s strong enough to back up and carry adding with the energy inside their lines, weather sweet melodic or rocking powerful. Sounding somewhat familiar, but also different from what I have heard so far.

My repeat button loved this album, so I would say they’re definitely worth a try. I just added them to my personal collection.
