What do we have here? HELHEIM is one of the most honest and consistent bands in this so called Viking Metal genre (I prefer to call it Black Metal). “Asgards Fall” is the band’s latest offering. An EP that contains two brand new tracks, which will only be found in this release, the song “Dualitet Og Ulver”, which will be featured in HELHEIM’s forthcoming album “Heidendomr Ok Motgangr”, as well as a re-recorded version of the classic now track “Jernskogen”, yeah the one that also has a video clip.
The Norwegian have once again done a really good job, since “Asgards Fall” continues walking down the same path with “Kaoskult”. HELHEIM’s sound is more epic than ever, with many clean passages, many down tempo parts and Noralf spitting his ice cold riffs. As the band says, the songs that are exclusively featured in here, were written under the influence of Quorthon, something that is really obvious, so they dedicate these two songs entirely to him. What about “Dualitet Og Ulver” now? Surely a really good and promising taste regarding the band’s forthcoming album, since it is an up tempo song that retains this epic feel, while also featuring some blasting outbreaks and haunting melodies.
About “Jernskogen” now… There is definitely nothing to comment here. This is nothing more than a re-recorded version of the song that features better sound. To tell you the truth, I liked it better than the old one. The fact is some may like it for the exact same reason, some may think it lost the atmosphere it used to have. This one’s up to you.
