Hellish War - Wine of Gods

Hellish War
Wine of Gods
by "Metal Mark" Garcia at 23 August 2019, 6:14 AM

When Old School Metal bands started to unleash their musical works based on the old formula of the 80’s, it was the beginning of an invasion. Of course, as this writer always says, it brings a lot of trashy bands without talent and that only copy what was already done by many. But some really deserve the full attention of the listeners, because even without bring something that wasn’t heard before, it has its value. It’s the case of the Brazilian Thunder Templars of HELLISH WAR, and once more, they’re in the fight with a new album, “Wine of Gods”.

Their music is based on a form of Heavy/Power Metal with strong influences from German names as HELLOWEEN, ACCEPT, RUNNING WILD and others, but mixed with the heavy weight of MANOWAR and some elements from NWOBHM (especially IRON MAIDEN). As told above, it’s obviously that everyone already knows this melodic form of music, based on strong choruses, heavy and catching melodies, and a good technical level. But the difference from their musical work from many others is the personal insight used by the quintet. Ricardo Piccoli worked on the mixing and mastering, and the album was produced by Eliton Tomasi. All was done to fit on the Old School patterns of sound quality, but being clear and strong, pulsing with energy and life. It can be said that it sounds modern, but respecting the past. It’s not perfect, but it’s very good in the way it is.

Ten very good songs are waiting for the fans, but the melodic attack of sharp guitar riffs and very good vocals of “Wine of Gods”, the thunderous and technical work from bass guitar and drums heard on “Trial by Fire” and “Falcon” (this one has a slow tempo insight, and shows a bass playing with great influence of Steve Harris), the sharp vocals used on “Devin”, the all-out-war song called “Burning Wings” (the influence of ACCEPT is clear in many arrangements), and the old Classic Rock feeling that rises from the harmonies of “The Wanderer” are the best shots of the album.

This new Metal assault of HELLISH WAR states that the quintet is alive and ready for new battles. Yes, “Wine of Gods” is a fine piece of Metal, indeed.
