Hjortene - Hjortene Award winner

Hjortene
Hjortene

Danish Stoner-Punk band HJORTENE are here with the release of the self-titled album and boy, you won’t be disappointed.

Apart from track ‘James Brown’ which features Danish punk band PRESIDENT FETCH, the entire album is sung in HJORTENE’s national tongue. It’s not a downside actually, there’s always a lot of mixed views on hearing bands in anything other than the English language, take most popular RAMMSTEIN as an example, someone will always without a doubt complain they can’t understand but on a personal level I think it adds an element of curiosity as to what they’re going on about and therefore educating yourself about their language and culture. On that note, why does everyone have to sing in English in this day and age? It will always baffle me.

HJORTENE seem to the be highly talented in creating thick and fuzzy killer sounds that add to the definite Stoner feel however it’s the upbeat, energetic sounds that’s thrown out that give it that edgy Punk side too. The mixing of these two genres is actually really clever and brilliantly put together and HJORTENE have pulled it off incredibly.

The mixing of Stoner Rock/Metal and Punk is something that heavily influences the listeners experience too, there are times where you’re chilled out and lost in your own world and then there’s the edgier Punk side in which you want to bang your head and lose it a little and honestly – it’s great to have such a good balance.

There are far too many bands out there trying to imitate great Stoner Metal/Rock and Punk, sadly it’s the majority that have stopped pulling it off so it’s finally refreshing to have a band infusing the two together actually making it work. In fact it’s refreshing having a band being able to make either one of the genres work at all in fact.

‘Hjortene’ is an album you can unwind too with a few beers with your mates or in the comfort of your own home with a good book and a Metal cup of tea after a long hard day of being at work and that’s a brilliant feature to have not only in an album, but, in a band too.

HJORTENE have really pulled out an epic release of refreshing tunes, wonderful infusions and trance-like vibes with this album. They make it sound like their playing is effortless and that music is once again just as magical as those mushrooms your nan is probably growing in her vegetable patch.
