Hugin Munin - Mountainbreaker Award winner

Hugin Munin
Mountainbreaker
by Marcos "Big Daddy" Garcia at 09 February 2014, 2:11 AM

Here in Brazil, all kinds of Metal you can think of exist and grow, like harvests of the wicked, and now, it’s time for the Viking Death Metal band HUGIN MUNIN, from Santos (SP) come again with “Mountainbreaker”, their new EP.

Blood in their eyes, will in playing their instruments, the quartet had done a very good EP, a step ahead from their full length “Ten Thousand Spears For Ten Thousand Gods”, with a very dry sound production and great evolution from them all as musicians. Their music now flows with more elaborated harmonies and great melodies, without losing its heavier grasp.

The sound production, as said above, is drier than before, but cleaner as well, giving more focus to guitar works without letting the others instruments disappear, and revealing the details important to their songs. The artwork deserves praises, one more fine job from Jobert Mello from Sledhammer Graphix (http://www.sledgehammergraphix.com/home/), who did some previous works for bands like SABATON, GRAVE DIGGER and others. So the quality is sensible.

All the four tracks (“The Wild Hunt” is an introduction) are fine pieces of Metal. “Flight of Ravens” is a slower song, with great guitar riffs and rhythmic changes. “Bastard are Those” is more aggressive, with great work from vocals. The wonderful “Look Skyward and Despair” is filled with tempo changes, putting drums’ work in evidence along with guitars. And “Mountainbreaker” is heavy and more aggressive than the others, with great guitars and excellent work from vocals.

A fine album, and it can be acquired at ITunes (iTunes - Music - EP Mountainbreaker - EP by Hugin Munin), or at the band’s official store (http://huginmunin.bigcartel.com/). But again Ol’ Big Daddy here says: MP3 is for sissies.
