Humanity’s Last Breath - Välde Award winner

Humanity’s Last Breath
Välde
by "Metal Mark" Garcia at 20 February 2021, 9:29 AM

Mutations always appear in Metal. And the younger a genre is, the more surprising can some bands be due the musical possibilities to be explored that exist. That’s the reason that is extremely difficult to wait for surprises into older Metal genres as Thrash Metal or traditional Heavy Metal, but on younger genres as Metalcore and Deathcore, things can be interesting, as can be heard on “Välde”, the latest release from the Swedish band HUMANITY’S LAST BREATH.

It’s not a sin to label their musical work as Progressive Deathcore/Metalcore. It has that slow set of tempos and those modern low grunts contrasting with shrilling screams, but something that stand between Industrial Metal and Black Metal in some moments, creating a set of morbid and oppressive ambiences, and with many chaotic Progressive musical arrangements. It’s far different form the usual, and due this fact, it can be hard to be assimilated by many listeners. But’s it’s really a great work, indeed. To combine such different (and sometimes diametrical different) elements isn’t a simple work to be done. But the one who worked on the recordings, mixing and mastering did a very good work, creating a violent, modern, but defined sonority for “Välde”. And it matches perfectly on their musical work.

Exciting and bitter, but yet modern and chaotic, “Välde” is here to try many musical conceptions from the listeners. But as long as it becomes more and more known, this album shows a strong appeal on songs as “Glutton” (a strong and hypnotic rhythm), the abrasive “Earthless”, the dissonant and Progressive “Descent”, the noisy and experimental blow given by “Dehumanize” and “Hadean”, the Industrial Metal song called “Väldet”, and “Futility” (nasty guitars, bass guitar and drums). But it defies the listeners in each song, a trial that deserves effort to be understood.

Heed the call and let “Välde” drown you into a different brave new world. HUMANITY’S LAST BREATH is the keeper of the gate, and will let you in.
