The band's logo and the album's name were two things that made me believe that Born Evil would be one more classic release with mediocre songs and several wannabes trying to attract our attention. The fact is that despite the not so good work the band has put on the artwork and the whole package, the songs this release contains are definitely more than a bunch of mediocre tunes.
The Australian metallers HUMONIC are here to deliver their own blend of metallic brutality and Prime Cuts Music gives them this chance by releasing their first official EP. The band was formed in 1998 by Tamer Lee and AL Howell. The duo decided to make their music even more heavy and aggressive, and so they decided to join forces with bassist Paul T.
HUMONIC's sound is a mixture between Death Metal, Hardcore and some more melodic elements, something that places them somewhere near the Deathcore scene. Two things that make HUMONIC's music blow your brains to the wall are Lee's vocals (we're talking about a real throatkill here) and Howell's relentless drumming. This guy really tears the drum kit apart! Do not expect any comments about the guitar and the bass! They have surely done a really good job, but Hardcore/Deathcore never had any amazing guitar work or kick-ass bass lines.
The sound is more than decent, adding the appropriate rawness, even though I would prefer to listen to a much cleaner and polished production. Anyway, this is not the right time for me to start bitching about the sound. The band has produced a really good EP showing that they can really make our heads bang with their incredible mix of relentless brutality and awesome groove. I don't want to get really excited since I have not seen what the band can do in a full-length release, but this EP is a great start.
