Iron Savior - The Landing

Iron Savior
The Landing
by Mark Gromen at 30 October 2011, 1:23 AM

Ten new songs (plus the intro of “Descending”, 47 minutes total) from GAMMA RAY friend / producer Piet Sielck, who actually formed a pre-HELLOWEEN band with guitarist / singer Kai Hansen. The two paths have criss-crossed repeatedly ever since, even though the diminutive Hansen is nowhere to be seen / heard this time around. Eighth album overall and like a long lost drinking buddy, once you get back together, everything feels good, even if its the same old thing. The ballad “Before The Pain” left next-to-last, is the only real sticking point. As such, IRON SAVIOR’s music still adheres to the Germanic Power Metal tradition: lively anthems, plenty of guitars, double bass drumming and in Sielck’s case, gritty (slightly off-kilter) vocals: reference GRAVE DIGGER / RAGE.

Unlike the early works, which spun a galactic tale, this is a collection of unconnected tunes. Surprising how Pop / hook laden a track entitled “Heavy Metal Never Dies” can be, but undoubted will have the festival crowds spilling beer on their neighbors (themselves) as they rock arm-in-arm next summer! The like-minded “R. U. Ready” name-checks various classic Metal titles, all the while sounding like a SAXON outtake, which ain’t a bad thing! “March Of Doom” is an ecological warning to mankind, while the aptly named “Faster Than All” is just that! Tasty Teutonic tidbit.
