Jack Frost - Wannadie Songs (CD)

Jack Frost
Wannadie Songs
by Dimitris T. at 24 April 2005, 7:08 PM

The truth is that I've never heard of Jack Frost before. Curiosity had me eager to do so, because of two reasons. The bloody artwork and the album's title, Wannadie Songs, which might sound a bit cliché but it surely got my attention. I may say, I didn't regret my curiosity - not at all - and from now on this band has one more fan…
Originating from Austria, Jack Frost is a band with quite a history. They have released five albums, taken part in a European Tour and also appeared in several Festivals (Summer Breeze, Wave Gotic Treffen…). Their music cannot exactly be sorted as doom Rock/Metal, because their sound also has strong influences and elements of the British Goth/Wave sound. It's a mixture, a creation of dark, depressive and melancholic tunes.
What if you had a shitty, disappointing day? Sounds rather typical, I think most of you might say. Well after such a day you will find just the music for you right here. Right from the start with the opening track Me And Dark You you will realize that the whole album absolutely binds with the title. Wannadie Songs, the words speak for themselves and the message is clear…Heavy guitars combined with mid tempo drums followed by the deep, dark, emotional singing of Phred Phinster. There are eight strong compositions, which show beauty through ugliness and hopelessness. This is music done not for the happy people; this is deeply emotional stuff that can surround your inner thoughts. Songs like Forlorn are true gems.
Without any doubt, a great album, Wannadie Songs is full of gloomy atmosphere and depression. It becomes heavier and heavier through its hearings, even more melancholic, even darker and emotional as time passes by and the end bares closer…
P.S. The CD also contains the video of  Me And Dark And You.
