Janvs - Nigredo Award winner

by Charlotte Whittingham at 29 April 2014, 12:14 PM

Progressive Black Metal three piece JANVS are making their dark melodic mark in their hometown Genova, Italy with their latest album “Nigredo”.

The album gets off to harmonious yet shadowy start, which is what you’d expect from Black Metal. The haunting synthesiser riff is played beautifully, it cleverly entices the listener into intense curiosity about what the album encompasses and this is demonstrated with such pride on the opening track “Abisso”.

The main thing I loved about this album is how no track sounded similar. From the soft, sombre darkness of “Suicido”, to the up-tempo, aggressive “793” each track demonstrates a different side to the band in general. I also like how the album is dark yet gives a chilled out vibe, it is the ideal album I would love to listen to when chilling out at a festival in the summer. The entirety of the album is sung in their beautiful native language that only engages the listener further.

It’s certainly a different album to what I’m used to and one I absolutely love. A treasure for Black Metal and Progressive Metal fans!
