Joe Lynn Turner - Live In Germany (CD)

Joe Lynn Turner
Live In Germany
by Grigoris Chronis at 29 September 2008, 5:03 PM

I'd expect some more 'solo discography' songs for a Joe Lynn Turner live CD. The man's released around ten solo albums the last 25 years and it would not be out of the question to ask for personal creations played live. Nonetheless, who'd say no to bRAINBOW, bDEEP PURPLE classics performed onstage by a high-esteem artist, anyway?
This live CD, recorded during the singer's appearance in the United Forces Of Rock Festival in Germany (September 30th, 2007), captures JLT and Co. delivering the goods in a 75-minute set. The sound is good, very good, but I think the live feel is kinda omitted. Joe's voice is in front in the mix, quite in front. Guess that's the case, to expose his piece. The rest of the players act as good, with a nice output willing to achieve joy in the fan's ears.
Joe sings lots of stuff from his RAINBOW days (Death Alley Driver, I Surrender, Power, Street Of Dreams, Can't Let You Go, Jealous Lover, Stone Cold, Can't Happen Here, Spotlight Kid) a trilogy off his latest solo career (Power Of Love, Your Love Is Life, Blood Red Sky) and a tribute to DEEP PURPLE (Burn). His voice is distinctive, with the passion all these years witnessed, he does not talk that much in between the songs (kinda in a rush or edited in the CD mix?) and - overall - he does what he's got to do fine. The 'solo' cuts he's best at, the RAINBOW tunes he carries in a good level, while the take on Burn I would describe as OK.
While waiting - as informed - for a new SUNSTORM album (why didn't he sing a couple of tracks off the magnificent debut, I also wonder?), let's just say that Live In Germany is judged as a 'must' release for JLT fanatics and only.
