Kalmah - Seventh Swamphony

Seventh Swamphony
by Angela "The Hunter" at 10 June 2013, 9:53 PM

KALMAH’s latest release, "Seventh Swamphony", has just been released to an awaiting public, and their fans will not be disappointed in their purchase. The Finland natives have once again delivered another great album full of metal goodness that must be heard over and over again to satisfy need for more. In other words, it’s pretty damn catchy.

From their blistering opener of "Seventh Swamphony", to the windmill inducing finale "The Trapper", this album keeps the energy flowing nonstop. Pekka Kokko’s vocal work is solid with vicious growls and soul squirming screams that give an unearthly feel to the album. The drums are brutal, full of energy and are just really well done. The keyboard work is also impressive. They add just enough to each song to enhance the otherworldly feeling, but do not detract from the overall sound. The bass work is really stunning, keeping the energy flowing by keeping close to the drums but has its own moments of greatness. A great example of it would be found on "Wolves On The Throne". Last, but not least, the guitar work is superb, with intricate leads, brutal rhythms, and solos galore. Kokko and Antti bring out the best of their parts, together. "Deadfall" and "Pikemaster" are stand out tracks that really reflect the awesomeness which is their playing. The album is well recorded and balanced, which completes the picture. A well done album all the way around. I would say for a rating, I would give it an 8 out of 10. Until next time, stay well, and live free!
