Kickin' Valentina - Chaos in Copenhagen Award winner

Kickin' Valentina
Chaos in Copenhagen
by "Metal Mark" Garcia at 14 November 2019, 7:37 AM

The old and good mix between traditional Heavy Metal with Hard Rock/Classic Rock from the 70’s has come back. And although many bands are just playing the old clichés of this musical format again and again, there are a few that prefer to make things in their own way, as the North American quartet KICKIN’ VALENTINA. Their new EP, “Chaos in Copenhagen” is really excellent. Their music is that mix between the weight of traditional Heavy Metal, the crude energy of Hard Rock (AC/DC is a source of inspiration for them in some aspects), and some touches from Glam Metal. And those elements, obviously, forms the core of musical work from the early ages of names as RATT, MÖTLEY CRÜE, DOKKEN and others, but be aware that these guys’ music shows personality, and some charming melodies. Prepare to be hooked by them!

As this EP was recorded during 14 hours, so the sound quality would depict such fact: it’s clean and with everything sounding heavy. The organic feeling that is presented is due the fact that recording three songs in 14 hours is nothing so easy, so it means that it was like plugging and playing their instruments as there was no tomorrow. And it fits on what they needed as a glove. “Sweet” is a powerful and melodic blow into the eardrums, that kind of song that when is played, is impossible to be stopped as a mummy, and it shows a great mix between weight, aggressiveness and catchy melodies (and what a very good work on vocals and backing vocals); an insane and bitter energy comes from “Easy Rider”, that shows excellent guitars (and another great chorus is presented on it); if you’re looking to find how things were on the genre during 1983-1984, “Shakedown” can be the answer: a mighty song with great accessible melodies and a solid heavy work from bass guitar and drums. And the live version for “Get Ready” (recorded during Bang Your Head Festival 2019) is here to prove that these madmen’s energy isn’t missing during their shows.

“Chaos in Copenhagen” is an invitation for some good time, and KICKIN’ VALENTINA is the kind of band that you must listen once on life. If you don’t like it, it’s truly a pity for you… The world needs more bands like them.
