Killers Lodge - Unnecessary I Award winner

Killers Lodge
Unnecessary I
by Lex Mishukhin at 23 December 2013, 2:36 AM

KILLERS LODGE is something a bit unusual, hailing from Italy and featuring members of CADAVERIA, the young band certainly has a firm ground to stand on with their debut “Unnecessary I”. However, to differ from their Black / Gothic Metal mothership, KILLERS LODGE are very different, rooted deeply in Heavy Metal and Hard Rock with some Punk thrown in for good measure.

From the opening track "Cosmos" it becomes apparent just what this band is attempting to do, and they do it well, an infectious and groovy riff dominates the song, and shows us what's to come. And the fun continues with the opening bass line of "Like a Rock", old school Hard 'n Heavy at its best. Another excellent riff starts out "New Life", a very MOTÖRHEAD like song, but that's the beauty, When I heard that this was a Hard 'n Heavy trio, I first thought of MOTÖRHEAD, and while that's a good comparison, the band are very far from copycats, they managed to forge a sound of their own while mixing in classic influences, the production is of course top notch as to be expected from the experienced musicians which comprise this band. You just have a listen to the closing track "The Glory of the Pillory" to see what I'm talking about. This is one of those rare albums which is both high quality and very fun to listen to, because from the very first notes it's very obvious that the band is having fun making this record.

I certainly recommend to anyone who's into the old school of Heavy Metal and Hard Rock to pick up a copy.
