Lamaštu - Death to All

Death to All
by Marcos "Big Daddy" Garcia at 16 December 2017, 1:15 PM

Since Black Metal arose from the depths of the underground in the beginning of the 90s (after some years of dormancy), it took the Metal scene like the Black Plague at the end of the medieval age. You can find good (and bad) bands playing the genre in all countries of the world. From Spain comes LAMAŠTU, a trio that unleashes a violent holocaust with their second album, “Death to All”.

They play a brutal and introspective form of Black Metal that reminds me a lot the SWOBM, but with some experimental elements (the effects on the shrieked screams is one of them). There are some influences that comes from earlier Thrash Metal bands as SLAYER, DESTRUCTION and SODOM in some guitars, and besides some ideas are really good, the band must rethink what they are about, because in some moments, they play in a form that seems that the guys are confused. The sound quality is a problem. It is too raw and too noisy, like we were back in the beginning of the 90s, when things began. But to sound in such way on our days is like a bad joke. You can have a nasty and raw sound, but in a way you can better understand.

The eight songs that are presented on “Death to All” are really good, showing a talented band. But they aren’t using their full potential, and as well they need to refine their musical influences into something more personal. The brutal “Blood and Iron”, the somber atmosphere of “Lamaštu”, the Death/Thrash Metal orientation of “Rats”, and the slow parts of “Offering to the Sea” is proof that they can do something way better than we hear on the album. “Death to All” is good, but some improvements must be done until the next album.
