Laneslide - Flying High

Flying High
by YngwieViking at 28 March 2013, 4:12 PM

After a strong and unexpected return in 2008, under an overwhelming collaboration with the exceptional guitarist Rob Marcello (DANGER DANGER / ex-IRON HORSE), that gave birth to a brilliant mind-blowing CD, simply titled MARCELLO / VESTRY, the ex-LAST TEMPTATION / BURNING STARR’s frontman, Frank Vestry, is back once again with a new project / band called LANESLIDE and of course, a brand new album.

Beside Mr. Vestry which is an American, the recording team behind “Flying High” is an international affair. In fact, the project has been created by Italian mastermind / songwriter / producer Bruno Kraler (BRUNOROCK) that's also handled most guitar playing helped by a highly active bunch of hired musicians, as his compatriot and keyboards master Alessandro Del Vecchio (EDEN’s CURSE / AXE / HARDLINE / LIONVILLE) one of the busiest players in the European AOR market or the famed Bobby Altvater (AFFAIR / LOVETRICK) as co-writer & guitar guest. The remaining members are from Sweden, USA or all the way from Germany, each musicians involved is talented and they are playing neat and well but, the real highlight plinth is for Frank Vestry, who delivers another ultra-solid vocal performance with a high degree in prowess and he really steals the show.

The sound is obviously set for the nostalgic of the 80's style, with an highly predictable but enjoyable at 100%. A pure melodic Hard Rock full of very catchy melodies with an hyper density in the backing vocals provided by Erik Mårtensson (ECLIPSE / WET) and Michael Bormann (REDRUM/ex-JADED HEART), two of the most respected and acclaimed musicians in this particular genre. The cover song “Self Control” originally interpreted by RAF is cheesy as hell, but finally fit the Hair Metal revival concept perfectly.

Each track gives one and another example of how it can be fresh, vivid and still energetic, this melodic Metal, when it's made in the old school fashion, with influences ranging from UNRULY CHILD (“Hangin’On Here”) to HOUSE OF LORDS (“River Of Love”) to KING KOBRA (”Dancing Girls”) to SIGNAL (“You Can Make It”) to PROPHET (“Flying High”) well you can easily name them all.

The lyrical content is very poor to say the least but that’s Rock N' Roll baby. You'll love it or you hate "Flying High", it depends entirely on where your passion for anachronistic eighties music with strong keyboard presence ends

For my part, I very much enjoyed LANESLIDE 1st work, as I found in this familiar sound, a very positive vibe and true Rocking spirit and most of all, some great songs edged by enormous hooks and anthemic chorus. Put your helmet on, the time capsule is ready to ignition. Fast forward to the past.
