Lorna Shore – Immortal Award winner

Lorna Shore
Immortal
by Brian “Metal” Morton at 19 February 2020, 12:06 PM

Formed in 2010 out of New Jersey, LORNA SHORE has been building itself slowly through the metal ranks. With their first EP “Triumph” coming out in 2010 followed by two more EP’s in 2012 and 2013. Their latest release “Immortal” is their third full length release since 2015. The band has had several members come and go since the bands inception with the remaining members being Adam De Micco and Andrew O’Connor on Guitars as well as Austin Archey on Drums. In light of recent events that have come to light, I have decided to not write about the vocalist beyond this point, nor mention his name out of respect for anyone affected by his actions. So with that out of the way, let’s get started on this absolute banger of an album!

The first track up is also the first single off the album entitled “Immortal”. This song was absolutely relentless with it’s brutality. From the moment the first note hit I was completely in awe and just could not stop listening on repeat. I was blown away by how far LORNA SHORE had come since 2010. The band had slowly become more and more intense as the years went by. Honestly I completely loved how they added in a chorus because it made it even more epic. “Death Portrait” is the next song on the list and it just keeps up the intensity of the album. I still can’t wrap my head around how insanely good this album is so far and I’m only on the second song. The drum work on this track is some of the best I have heard in quite a while. “This Is Hell” in my opinion is one of the most well written metal songs I have heard in a very long time. This honestly for me is up there with the likes of NECROPHAGIST and BENEATH THE MASSACRE mixed with the incredible symphonic work that is on most of DIMMU BORGIR albums.

Hollow Sentence” keeps the album going and I really don’t think that there is a single fault in the composition of this album at all so far. I am absolutely amazed so far. “Warpath Of Disease” really hits hard as fuck. It’s one of those songs that makes you want to rip your own face off while screaming your head off. This is one you can feel deep inside your hollow soul. I imagine this is what would be playing as demons escaped hell. “Misery System” just made me want to get up and go on a rampage. There is something about this song that just gets the blood pumping. This is definitely one of my favourites off the album especially since it has a part where it slows down and somehow becomes even angrier while doing so.”Obsession” and “King Ov Deception” are truly amazing but I really want to skip forward and talk about “Darkest Spawn”. God damn is this song fucking incredible. I had to replay it several times just to be able to soak it all in. At first in the beginning it’s all melodic and eerie sounding, so I thought maybe it was going to be an all melodic song. Boy was I completely wrong. This song is one of the best on the album by far. The tempo changes were incredible and OH MY GOD the guitars are fucking insane! I seriously had to do a double take. The final song on the album is “Relentless Torment” and what a way to end such an incredible album. I was thinking there would be a moment of rest on the album at some point but I was wrong.

This will definitely be an album to beat for 2020 metal releases. For now, this is my number one pick for my top ten. We will see how well the rest of the year goes but this is going to be a hard album to beat in my opinion. The evolution of this band is incredible and this album was sick as fuck. I hope they get their lineup situated soon and I hope to see them on tour sometime this year! Way to go guys!
