MAGOA is band from Ermont, Ile-de-France. Their music is connecting of Industrial Metal, Metalcore, Nu Metal, Rock N’ Roll and Electronic Rock / Metal. In 2012 they have released EP
“Animal” and here and now they release their debut,
“Topsy Turvydom”.
The opening number,
“Ailleurs”, quite easily asserts the band’s direction, chunky heavy, yet melodic, riffs of a modernized nature with a rhythm section that is ever versatile with a surge of electronic power and shrieking vocals. Possibly one of the most interesting pieces I heard from these guys.
“Wall Of The Damned” continues the band’s pattern, but with melodic Rock vibe. My number one is
“Betraying Grace”, the album’s single, makes its introduction with electronic sampling and playing, it felt like
SLIPKNOT, then it escalates to a heavily distorted rhythms followed by screamo vocals that might remind of
Phil Anselmo (
PANTERA). Quite a memorable tune.
“Broken Record” is a loud melodic stomper, all of things happen within when it comes to various Metal directions, including a fine
PAPA ROACH signature cramped with Black Metal infusion.
“Party Time” is an Electro sensation with melodic singing along the chorus. I would also recommend on:
“Max Bet” a fast modern Metal exciter,
“Eat You Alive” as the Industrial Metal extravagance,
“Estamos Locos” coming as the screamo frenzy and finally,
“Forgotten Saints” as yet another contemporary piece of machinery which sounds like mix of
MARYLIN MANSON, PRODIGY and
RAMMSTEIN.
I found this album to be a fairly passionate release with a lot of vigor and developed musicianship. Fans of
SLIPKNOT, PANTERA, FEAR FACTORY, LAMB OF GOD or
RAMMSTEIN will have their mouth full over this one. However, I would suggest that everyone will have a go at it.
