Why have I not heard of
MARTINA EDOFF before? Before writing this review, I had to do some research about who she is and what work she has done previously. People call her the “unashamed Swedish Rock Chick!” and “Nordic Queen of Rock!” Let me just say that I am now a fan! When I first listened to
“Turn Our Pages,” on her latest and third album,
“We Will Align,” I was instantly hooked. It hits you hard and heavy but it is catchy as hell! The music is a combination of melodies from
KAMELOT and
NIGHTWISH. It is catchy and somewhat generic, but it works here because of her dynamic, inspiring voice. Her voice contrasts the music because it is extremely unique in this genre. It is soulful, twangy, and bluesy but foreboding and edgy. Kind of like the tenor version of
Reba McEntire or
Shania Twain but with more lung power.
“We Will Align” is a passionate, brilliant melodic rock album that only gets better the more you listen to it.
“Champions” is heavy, with catchy riffs and strong pop refrains that exude energy and a chorus that is likely to repeat in your head all day. "
Alive" is a groovy, sassy track that gives me that country vibe. The same goes for
“Lay Down Your Arms,” which is a brilliant, contrasting, track that is dark and heavy that has a 70’s influence and a foreboding organ.
“We Will Align” sounds like something out of
NIGHTWISH’s album
“Once,” except for the operatic vocals. It is an instant hit.
“Face The Mirror” is a lovely power ballad with a soft, piano melody at first, and reminds me of
HAMMERFALLS’s ballads. This is hands down one of the best songs on the album. Finally, the album ends with
“Brand New World” a track where you get to really experience the talent and power of her vocal cords. The range is amazing and will send chills down your spine and make you hit the replay button after it is over. I highly recommend this album. It may be different than what you are used to listening to, but it’s worth checking out.
