Welcome back to a world where down is up, there are colonies of birchmen and fire ants march down the street. A world invented by
MASTODON, for those of us who enjoy weird lyrics that make no sense unless you really look for the logic behind them all. Of course, "
Once More 'Round The Sun" is just like this, except no more deep growly vocals.
Reprise Records have set out to release some of the best Metal albums, it is time to decide if that's what they're doing with
MASTODON.
MASTODON have released an album much closer to their last album
"The Hunter" than anything else. Although "
Once More 'Round The Sun" is not as heavy as their first few albums, but the album itself does have sections that sound like they would be in each and every album. "
The Motherload" is where the album truly kicks into gear, with the opening track not sounding much more than a traditional Rock song. "
High Road" was the highlight of the album though being the single strongest track and the first single released from the album. "
Chimes At Midnight" the second single released, is also a strong song but not a lyrically catchy as the first one. "
Diamond In The Witch House" is a great track to close the album with, the way it comes out with guest vocals from
Scott Kelly is heavy and compelling enough to pull you in for one final burst to wow you.
MASTODON's "
Once More 'Round The Sun" may not be the best or heaviest album they've released, but the album itself with the guests is defiantly a best release for 2014, and its surely a stronger album than "
The Hunter" was.
