MERDA MUNDI translates to “shit of the world” in Latin. Formed in Belgium in 2006,
Déhà has been involved in many other projects as well, including his name sake band. It took until 2012 for their first full length to see the light, and now he returns with his third, titled
“Hatred,” which contains four songs. If the song titles are any indication of what we might be getting here, we are in for a dark and spooky ride.
“Condemn Them” leads off the album. Cold, bleak winds howl in the opening, followed by a gut wrenching scream. The drums are continued claps of thunder and the guitars build a harrowing sound. The relentless sound never gives up. Towards the end it’s utter chaos, with the kick drum beating at speeds too fast to comprehend.
“Castigate Them” opens with some guitar notes and feedback, and then the chaos ensues. It’s hard to differentiate this song from the one before. It’s utter hatred in a musical medium…unrelenting pummeling of everything and anything.
“Annihilate Them” opens with a distinguishable guitar riff that is soon obliterated by raging vocals and impossibly fast drumming. It lets up for just a little bit near the half way mark but those guitars and his vocals are threatening to rip your eardrums to shreds.
“Fucking Them” closes the album. It opens with a pretty easy pace but then the hatred rolls in. There really isn’t much else to day about this track as it barely registers as music. I get that that was the intent of the band but too much intensity can ruin the listening experience. If you like albums that are just a fireball from start to finish, then give this a go. But if you want some musical diversity, don’t look for it here.
