Merrimack - The Acausal Mess

Merrimack
The Acausal Mess
by Angela "MetalDancer" Van Der Kreeft at 21 June 2012, 3:22 PM

MERRIMACK is a French band that did form in 1994 and who recently released their 4th full length album“The Acausal Mess” through AFM Records. A Black Metal album with a Satanism lyrical theme.

The Black Metal genre contains many bands, but not all are able to steer their instruments into the sound that reveals the darkness of souls like MERRIMACK does. One can write about darkness, sing about darkness and make music about darkness, but revealing darkness like one’s part of that darkness does ask more than just that. It’s like the difference between hearing about something and seeing it appear right in front of you because of what you hear.

MERRIMACK is clearly a band that has been around for a while, what’s showing inside their musical skills that are able to speak for themselves inside the atmosphere they seem to be creating so easy. The black metal they are producing does not only sound as dark as black metal can be, it simply also is. MERRIMACK‘s showing the depths of hell, shining their blinding light on hate, pain, endless suffering, anger and the hunger for revenge.

“The Acausal Mess” is as fast as it is slow anddoes contain screams from the bottom of the soul that has the strength to drag along even when the words are hard to follow, like MERRIMACK is part of the demons living inside hell making sure there’s no hope left. The drum lines, guitar lines, bass lines and vocal lines are placed with though and character to make the album sound like a bottomless pit from where you can see and hear the echo of hell calling out to you.

“The Acausal Mess” is in the same line as former work from MERRIMACK, but with more experience and ability to give the pit of hell even more depth than before.
