Metsatoll - Karjajuht Award winner

by Marcos "Big Daddy" Garcia at 17 February 2014, 2:41 AM

When a band signs with Spinefarm, some can say: it’s guaranteed your satisfaction. And it’s true when we deal with METSATÖLL, an Estonian band of Folk Metal, which comes now with their new album, “Karjajuht”.

Their music sounds like a marriage between some aspects of ARKONA, KORPIKLAANI and FINNTROLL, but with their own personality, as all of us can hear clearly. It’s a very good band, and sound more Metal than a great part of folk trend that exist nowadays. Good vocals, excellent riffs, strong rhythmic basis, and the inserts of some Folk instruments really give a new taste to their music.

The sound production is fine, a good work done by Samu Ruotsalainen, having Kijo Koppel on recording and mixing, and Minerva Pappi on mastering. It’s a strong and powerful sound, indeed, but it’s clean the way it must to all instruments sound clear.

Their best moments: “Külmking” (great vocals, with tempos in a mid way, not so fast and not so slow), “Lööme mesti” (fast and energetic track, with fine guitars arising along with Folk instruments, and with participation of KORPIKLAANI’s Jonne Järvelä on vocals), the more introspective “See on see maa”, the aggressive “Terasest taotud maa” (great vocals and guitars roaring to all sides), “Öö”, the slower “Metsalase veri”, and the Folk “Talisman”.

Excellent music, so buy it and remember what you Ol’ Big Daddy here always says: MP3 is for sissies.
