MindAHead - Reflections Award winner

MindAHead
Reflections
by Kerrie at 10 May 2017, 10:36 AM

Formed in 2010, MINDAHEAD are a Progressive Metal band from Italy. “Reflections” is their first full-length album at a length of about fifty-nine minutes and is released by Revalve Records.

“Reflection” is an instrumental. It was haunting and played on a piano. It was about fifty-eight seconds long, which isn’t very long, but it was a very strong piece to start the album with. “Remain Intact” starts out eerie and then quite a few effects come into play. It is almost as if there are two vibes going on there. An aggressive vibe and a serene one; and they are both fighting for dominance.  It lasts about one minute and fifty seconds before entering in with some heavy guitars, drumming, and vocals. There is also a part at about 3:19 that I cannot forget to mention because it focuses on the guitar. It has a mischievous feel and kind of reminds me of being at a carnival. “Farewell”, track nine, I love the start to this one. It’s just so beautiful, note after note of pure goodness! This has to be my favourite track from the whole album. It really just gets inside you and turns everything to mush. The crying they managed to get out of the guitars melted my heart. I thought it was phenomenal with just guitars and vocals. Then they totally took it up another level with the drumming and flute that enter at 3:36.

The music captured different moods very well that it was almost like an emotional roller coaster listening to this album. Kyo Calati and Frank Novelli did an awesome job singing together. With his ferocious, strength-y growls and screams and her beautiful, serene, innocent voice; they complimented each other like peanut butter and jelly. Great vocalists, great playing and great music! I recommend giving it a listen.
