Mistress - Mistress (CD)

by Grigoris Chronis at 20 September 2005, 7:06 PM

An album review, in general, doesn't necessarily scope to lead the reader's mind to a specific selection. Overall - as I see - the critical factor is to give sufficient info on an album release so as to provide a series of 'concerns'. Still, for styles/sounds irrelevant to the main 'stand' of a magazine/webzine a 'bad' rating doesn't automatically mean that the specific effort is for the trashcan, but - sometimes, due to awareness and/or disbelief - it's completely (in a way) off-topic for a Hard Rock & Heavy Metal magazine.
Necro-noise-doom Birmingham act Mistress celebrates its 6th birthday and this is the band's first release. I think it was a private release, hitting the stores again via Earache. In brief, Mistress experiments with a variety of sounds, styles, emotions and rhythms. Not in a Prog way, but in a rather a paranoid, necro-sludge songwriting mode. Screams, noises and stuff I don't get.
Rating is based on the fact(s) mentioned above.
