Molllust - Bach Con Fuoco Award winner

Bach Con Fuoco
by Katarzyna Zakolska at 09 May 2013, 11:22 AM

MOLLLUST is an Opera Metal band from Leipzig, Germany formed in 2010 by Janika Groß and Frank Schumacher. The band released their debut “Schuld” in 2012 and just recently issued their brand new EP, “Bach Con Fuoco”. MOLLLUST recorded some interpretations of music of Bach, and were presented in the “BachSpiele 2012”. The band won the first prize, thus the decision to record them on an EP.

As I stated the 4 songs of this EP are arrangements of Johann Sebastian Bach original compositions. MOLLLUST performed those perfectly with their own interpretation. “Präludium” has an amazing symphonic sound added by the Cello and Violin all mixed with stronger riffs. Classic music with great Metal is a stimulating experience for minds & hearts, a sure need from time to time. The blending of elements is near perfect for this instrumental. “Ave” displays great singing, reminded me of “Ave Maria”. Listening to this showcase is like being in a church, such a sacred like atmosphere. “Blute Nur, Du Liebes Herz” invites with a heavy sound alongside gentle elements of Classical music. Fantastic high end Operatic voice letting off the Gothic chill, diverse riffs, piano and violin create mystic only to greet the male vocals, quite nostalgic. In reality this is “Matthaeus Passion”. The same was with “Aus Liebe will mein Heiland sterben”. A Metallic opera firing at will. This track is characterized by an aggressive state of mind, even the playing classical instruments and choir seems anguished. It sounds like an extreme Metal done with a fine measure of skill. I like this track so much. Janika Groß’s operatic vocals are soprano; her voice is totally great with unbelievable melodic edge.

This EP is full of experience and professionalism. Fans of THERION, NIGHTWISH, WITHIN TEMPTATION, generally Symphonic or Opera Metal and there you have the visions of MOLLLUST. Oh, and I think that lovers of Classical music and Opera will wish to hear their beloved composition in a new interpretation. Hard to compare their music to any other band, because they have their own style with genuine ideas on how to play their music. You surely will not be disappointed.
