Monasterium - Monasterium Award winner

by Craig “Thrashing” Rider at 03 October 2016, 6:40 AM

Metal maniacs, rejoice! The Thrasher returns to present to you: MONASTERIUM; signed via No Remorse Records, hailing from Polish grounds - and on their debut album entitled: “Monasterium”.

Epic Doom Metal; has a nice ring to it doesn't it? MONASTERIUM formed in 2014 to deliver unprecedented musicianship with their eponymous 2016 debut: “Monasterium”. Hymns of Doom that take you through a dense journey through spiritual worlds; medieval history and religion. Infusing the classical Heavy Metal roots; expect crushing riffs embodied with haunting melodies in which collide an atmospheric work of art. The quintet in question has many influences including BLACK SABBATH, MANOWAR, GRAND MAGUS…just to name a few; I can sense the influential combination that collectively fuses the imaginative forces of this quartet, all works well and everything sounds absolutely stellar. Not only that; the vocalist is also from the infamous band known as EVANGELIST; with this collective to deliver you, the consumer…an utmost furious sound production that begs one to pound their fist with exquisite power.

Michał Strzelecki on the vocal cords has enough power to efficiently distribute a chilling experience with high upbeat fruition. The instrumentation includes Tomasz Gurgul on guitars who riffs away some of the most meticulous notes in that showcases some distinct balances and some epic Doom Metal atmospherics. The pummeling powerhouse of Filip Malinowski on bass and the crushing exerts of Maciej Berniak on drums, proficiently flourishes a fine sound of doomy elegance that significantly provides a complex production of dexterity, solidifying the sub-genre indefinitely. I can truthfully say that MONASTERIUM is a force to be reckoned with; I can also expand my intellectual standards with this sub-genre, as it continues to grow on me with each adept band I get acquainted with…and so with that, I can enthusiastically enjoy each new discovery with immense entertainment.

7 tracks of complex Doom ranging at over 60 minutes long; opening up the record with “Christening In Blood”, “A Hundredfold Cursed” & “The Pharisee's Tongue” deliver classical Metal high-notes fused with an excellently crafted, and doomy atmosphere. “In The Shrine Of The Jackal God” & “In Hoc Signo Vinces” (which is Latin for “In This Sign You Will Conquer”) delivers crisp musicianship of unrelenting skill. Additional effects make this sound unprecedented and instrumentally groovy. Some interesting high growls implemented here and there; showcasing diversity of aptitude notions. And so “Moloch's Uprising” & “Into The Mountain Of Power” concludes the album in fine doomy fashion; evidently providing crunchy, hammering riffs that never get boring. I was very surprised with “Monasterium” and after repeated listens, I am positive that this marvel will captivate new Metal fans as well as veteran Doom fans on top.
