Moonspell – Alpha Noir / Omega White Award winner

Moonspell
Alpha Noir / Omega White
by Jorge “The Zarto” Zamudio at 03 May 2012, 12:45 PM

After four long… and I mean long years, MOONSPELL returned with this release; and if I can be sincere, the fact of being a hardcore fan of this group, will not change the critic aspect that I want to give on this review.

First the bad (as always in life, bad things come first). The idea of making this album a 2 cd set, could be a double-edged sword, why? Simple, as a listener you could stay with only one side of this release, and the fact of dividing into heavy-ballad sections, is awful, there’s nothing more beautiful than a complex album with both sides at the same time, making your nature change in fact of minutes, but what the hell, that’s a very personal observation, so don’t read this, it’s worthless.

And now the good part: I’m almost speechless, this has to be their best effort in their long career; each and every song has not only talent, but passion and that sense of not giving the fans what they want, but doing what the band wanted to, and pleasing the fans along the way. The hard parts are memorable, giving reminiscences of their early work, but with the production of nowadays, which is a winning combination; catchy riffs, demonstrating the good work that was done by the musicians in every compositional aspect, the percussion amazing as always, the vocals are better than ever, Fernando has made an excellent job in each and every track here, the harmonizing keys beautifully played; which takes me to the ballads: there’s not a bad song from the 2nd CD (not saying that in the 1st has bad ones, but let’s say “weaker” songs) since “White Omega”, you know that it’s a CD you must listen to, as I said first, I’m without words, I’ll just say: Masterpieces.

Lyrically, pretty good poems, that will stay in your mind easily, that’s for sure, and with that being said, I, Zarto, recommend this album to every Metal fan, whether your mind is open or not, believe me, here you’ll find a song for you.
