Ever listened to an album that takes you away to an alternate reality that you just don’t want to leave? French Supernatural Goth Metal outfit MY DOPPLEGÄNGER do just that with their latest album ‘God Is A Lie’.
The journey starts with opening track ‘Somewhere In My Head’ where it gives you a real Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde type ambience that is quite haunting for the listener. A lot of horror or gothic tales come to mind as the album continues; for instance the song ‘Dead Man Cries’ instantly transports me to the world of Tim Burton particualarly films ‘Corpse Bride’ and ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’.
I think this gothic horror is portrayed very well with the use of piano tracks in the instrumental arrangments, making it one of the key highlights of the album. I also admire the vocal work that reminds me of fellow Modern Metal band SCAR SYMMETRY.
Ending beautifully with ‘Fallen Angel’ leaves the listener wanting more from the appropriately named MY DOPPLEGÄNGER. If you need an album to release your dark side then this is certainly the album for you.
