This band is the brainchild of
Ragga Johansson, a Death Metal veteran from Sweden that has had over 30 current and former bands. The guy is a workhorse and is the equivalent to guys like
Peter Tagtgren and
Devin Townsend. He never takes time off from music and you can see that the guy is so passionate about his craft.
This band started off as collaboration between
Johansson and Costa Rican based singer
Master Butcher (aka.
Ronald Jimenez). They started with one song that resulted into
‘’Skull Crushing Death’’. They liked the chemistry between them and they decided to do a full album, actually an EP. I think it’s the first time I have listened to a guy from Costa Rica in any band, in any genre to be perfectly honest.
Let’s face it, it’s not going to reinvent the wheel and the Death Metal genre is pretty much at its lowest point in a number of years. Nothing is really going to stand out in a genre that has had little or no progression in the last few years. Is it headbanging fun? Yes it is! But I mean it’s a little over 20 minutes of non-stop aggression. It’s fun to listen to and it gets your juices flowing but nothing more than that.
I was surprised by the quality of the production though. If I would not have read it, I would have thought that they were instruments on this one and not some programming. Really awesome to see what technology can do nowadays! The quality of the audio is top notch and as for the vocalist, he does a great job with the growl vocals. You can actually hear a lot of what he is singing, I mean, you can understand the words most of the time and that’s something a lot of Death Metal bands have been lacking (In my honest opinion evidently).
Not a bad release, very energetic but lacks that progression I hoped in the newer Death Metal bands.
