Necrophagia - Harvest Ritual Vol. 1 (CD)

Harvest Ritual Vol. 1
by Panagiotis Koutsompogeras at 02 May 2005, 7:37 AM

Necrophagia is definitely one of the few bands someone could honestly say that they play by their own rules and don't follow any laws or trends. It is rather hard to try to categorize their sound. Though it is quite safe to say that what they play is a mix of Thrash and Death Metal. The vocals of Killjoy are eerie as usual, which is really nothing new. As you would definitely expect the music is dedicated to horror and gore.
Many more or less famous members of the Metal community have contributed to Necrophagia, such as x-Pantera vocalist Phil Anselmo. Vocalist Killjoy has also co-worked and founded bands with musicians such as  Mayhem's Maniac, Satyricon's Satyr Wongraven, Darkthrone's Fenriz, S.O.D. bassist Dan Lilker, Autopsy and Abcess guitarist Chris Reifert.
Killjoy whose love for Venom only barely exceeded his passion for slasher movies really manages to combine his two aforementioned preferences really perfect. There is a track called Akumu which really depicts on the entire evil character of Necrophagia. There are only synths, drums, and also has some strange clean vocals. The guitar sound is really clean and exceptional. There are some 'to the point' guitar riffs all over the place which really add to the intensity of the record. If you would like to give a title to this album then this would be the soundtrack to a horror flick mixed with some extreme Metal. The keyboards play eerie, frightening noises throughout the album on tracks like Cadavera X or Akumu.
The cover is as always evil and perverted. Even though the music is really tough and dirty, the music, the recording sounds so clean and that's just how twisted their music should sound. The track Stitch Her Further has been co-written by Slipknot's Joey Jordison, who also contributed guest vocals.
- Album Highlights: Dead Skin Slave, Return To Texas, Akumu, Stitch Her Further, Excommunicated and Harvest Ritual.
