Nenasty - When The Shadows Leave (CD)

When The Shadows Leave
by Michael Dalakos at 15 October 2006, 7:24 PM

In Russian? That won't be easy I thought loudly while checking out this CD assigned to me for review, but once I got bypassed the language barrier it wasn't that hard after all. Nenasty is another Russian (Moscow based) act recently send us their work for presentation…
Unfortunately like their music their site is also in Russian so I didn't manage to gather any interesting facts about them. As much as I manage to figure out is that they have released so far two more works (one EP in 2005 and one full length in the same year). Quite honestly I never understood the stubbornness of Russian acts only to invest in their country's audience. Russia might be huge but there are other places where you can sell your music…
Anyway Nenasty play a mixture of gothic, dark music with some electronic elements making their sound a bit too modern for me. Being a two members act I am not sure if the band invest on live activities. Truth is that Nasty Turenkova has an excellent voice that blends smoothly in the sound of the band. On the other hand Valery Senmuth Av being the instrumentalist of the band really impressed me with his guitar abilities. His neoclassic style of playing might sound bizarre when incorporated in the whole picture but indeed gives some kind of identity to the act. Sadly I never thought of the Russian language as one of the most lyrical ones and Nenasty didn't change this belief of mine.
If you don't have a problem listening music that you don't understand what is all about you but you do like the genres mentioned above you will probably find something interesting in Nenasty. As for the rest…
