It seems that melodic Death Metal isn’t the only dessert Sweden plans to add to our music meals, for apparently, Progressive Sludge is a new treat that will make your ears drool, and NEW KEEPERS OF THE WATER TOWERS will stand there awaiting your thanks. Their new release “Cosmic Child” is very well inspired Sludge / Progressive album that shouldn’t be a miss for you in your Metal journey.
For this epic meal, we’ve acquired some samples of KATATONIA and BARONESS, and mixed them together with some lower quality recordings (which is good for a genre like Sludge). But something about "Cosmic Child" is that, it doesn’t feel like a Sludge due to the guitar tuning and general feel of the album, which is very well varied and inspired by several sounds in the Metal genre overall. If I had to pick a genre I’d say this is some experimental Progressive Sludge music (fuck yeah, trying to seem smart).
In this release you’ll find many acoustic passages, many sung and screamed vocals from all members of the band, and even some goddamn Folk in “Visions Of Death” for example. The tracks are pretty long, but sure worth it, since as I said before this album is very Progressive and it does best in keeping away from being repetitive, boring, and another replica of the giants in the Sludge genre.
“Cosmic Child” is a recommended release, which will surely pleasure your ears and leave you wanting more, or at least satisfied. NEW KEEPERS OF THE WATER TOWERS are much underrated, and from what I heard on this release, that needs to change. There’s much talent to be found here, and you’ll be doing the entire Metal scene a favor by adding these fellows to your list of bands.
