New World Depression - Interment of Sins Award winner

New World Depression
Interment of Sins
by "Metal Mark" Garcia at 22 March 2023, 2:26 PM

Since the arrival of the new millennium 20 years ago, a new trend appeared in the Metal scene: the so called Old School Metal genres. As everyone already know, it’s a form of playing the genres of Metal nearer of the origins (or, as in the case of Death Metal and Black Metal, nearer what the Second Wave of both genres brought), evading modern evolutions and elements. It’s not bad or good, it’s just what this tendency is, but it has a deep problem: some bands just copy the clichés and trying nothing new to express themselves (or in other words, they’re not able to express themselves because they’re trying to be other bands). But there’s always some works that are worth of attention, as “Interment of Sin”, the new album of Swedish Death Metal maniacs of NEW WORLD DEPRESSION.

They’re an Old School Death Metal band, with some elements that resembles works of acts as DEATH, MORGORTH, MORBID ANGEL, BOLT THROWER and OBITUARY, or in other words, a band that makes Death Metal as it was between 1989 and 1995 (and their music isn’t simply in a Swedish Death Metal way), but with a clear touch of Death ‘n’ Roll elements in some parts. The main achievement of the quintet on the album: to sound Old School, but bearing a personal work, with a massive and nasty energy flowing from it. Yes, it’s really very good. The band hired Jörg Uken to make the recording, mixing and mastering of “Interment of Sin”, and they hit the target: Jörg created a massive and actual sound quality for the album, allowing the songs to be understood and sound aggressive and heavy as Hell at the same time. It’s what their songs need to be expressed. Ten songs are the offering done on “Interment of Sin”, an album that’s really charming and easy to be heard and understood.

For a first time on their work, one can check “Undying Strains” (and oppressive and slow song, with abrasive guitar riffs and nasty ‘scream bloody gorean’ grunts of the vocals), “Brainless” (some Death ‘n’ Roll tacks can be heard on the guitars arrangements, and great Death Metal hooks are presented), “Guided by the Front” (a very good set of simple rhythmic shifts, with bass guitar and drums creating a massive and inexpugnable wall), “Interment of Sins” (again some Death ‘n’ Roll elements can be detected in the instrumental arrangements, with slow tempos creating that bitter and hooking feeling), “Overdose of Humankind” (what brutal tempos and nasty guttural screams), and “Thirst for Life”. It’s really a great album!

Without reinventing Death Metal, NEW WORLD DEPRESSION came to rip your ears apart. Listen to “Interment of Sins” and feel your brain being smashed!
