Nile - Those Whom The Gods Detest (CD)

Those Whom The Gods Detest

Don't tell me that you are a Metal fan, no matter what kind of Metal you listen to, and you haven't even heard of NILE. This band has managed to make its name known to the worldwide Metal scene with unique Death Metal releases that seem to earn more and more fans as time goes by. Let's see what this power trio is up to this time.

The good thing about this NILE is that they seem to evolve with every single album they release. From the noisy brutal as fuck holocaust of their first albums, to the occult aesthetic era, and now to an album that perfectly combines all their past. With the band's mastermind Karl Sanders once more behind the steering wheel, NILE seem to have found their way to the top.

The album starts with the song that has already been the subject of long talks between death metallers. Kafir! kicks in with a classic Death Metal outbreak, to continue with a groovier part and vocals that will get you into NILE's world right away. The Egyptian melodies are still here dressing the music in a mysterious veil. The world of the dead has opened its gates!

Those Whom The Gods Detest is an album that gathers all our beloved Death Metal elements, from MORBID ANGEL sick riffs to brutal outbreaks and CANNIBAL CORPSE style technical breaks, while adding middle eastern style vocals samples (like the man singing in Kafir!). The band has worked a lot and it seems that this trio has finally become a tight unity. The compositions have a complex yet solid structure, the sound is slightly better (produced and mixed by Neil Kernon), the vocals are taken to a whole new level, since the listener can understand them at many parts and the riffs… Oh these riffs! They can fucking tear you apart with their power and aggression! Just listen to the opening riff of Utterances Of The Crawling Dead or the song Those Whom The Gods Detest, which is my personal favorite in this album.

Those Whom The Gods Detest easily overcomes the band's previous effort Ithyphallic for simple reasons. The vocals have been worked a lot, the music is much more powerful, the drumming fucking kills and the sound is even better. What more can you ask for? It surely doesn't reach the quality of albums like Annihilation Of The Wicked or In Their Darkened Shrines, but it is a more than good album ready to serve its master well.
