Noctem – Oblivion

by Kiriakos “NG” Athanasiadis at 12 December 2011, 8:27 PM

NOCTEM are coming from Valencia, Spain and they are playing an assorted form of blackened Death / Thrash Metal.  The band was consolidated as an extreme Metal band in April 2001. They have released a full length album, two demos and a single live album. “Oblivion” is their second album and it was recorded at Ultrasound Studios 2 in Portugal with producer Daniel Cardoso. The artwork was designed by Marcelo Vasco.

“Oblivion”, after the intro, becomes a storm full of hate, violence and darkness. Death / Thrash riffs accompanied with a Black Metal atmosphere fronted by a very good growl lead vocals. While the album is flowing, I noticed that NOCTEM have been trying to play their own thing while taking their influences from EMPEROR, HYPOCRISY and DIMMU BORGIR. Those influences are not that obvious. Tracks like “The arrival of the false gods”, “Universal disorder”, “Invictus”, “Unredemption”, “A borning winged snake” and “Oblivion” are not going to dishearten any fan of the kind. The production as well is very good and the artwork excellent for the kind. In general, NOCTEM is a very good choice, Grab it!
