Noekk - The Water Sprite (CD)

Noekk
The Water Sprite
by Panagiotis Koutsompogeras at 13 December 2005, 12:33 PM

Noekk is a really unique band playing strange, dark music and in my opinion it is quite hard to understand their meaning and the message they are trying to deliver if you are not acquainted (like me) with that type of music. I think that maybe this music is more appropriate when you are really exhausted from day time occupations or when you want to smoke your dope ! But I don't think that it's my kind of music!
Here you can find many King Crimson type elements - mostly due to the keys - which are really positive for this kind of music. The composers really testify their souls here in a very lyrical way. The quality of the lyrics is also of high standard and will cause serious thinking to the listener as they are very sensitive and they come directly from the soul. However the music sometimes sounds hypotonic and you can easily get lost if you do not pay that much attention to it. There are no fast parts throughout the record which make its hearing really hard to complete and to comprehend.
The artwork is really nice with a dreamlike theme which will lead your imagination to other places, for sure. You must also note that the lyrics in T.B.'s Notion are written by J.R.R. Tolkien.
Also, on this album you'll find a really nicely delivered Dead Can Dance cover song called How Fortunate The Man With None. This song can also be detected in the cover album Tribute To Dead Can Dance - The Lotus Eaters (Black Lotus).
- Album Highlights: The Watersprite, How Fortunate The Man With None and The Riddle Seeker.
