Nomad Son - The Darkening Award winner

Nomad Son
The Darkening
by Daniel Silva at 09 September 2013, 6:27 PM

Hailing from the small island of Malta, NOMAD SON plays Doom Metal, my favorite Metal genre of all. Formed in 2006 they have released two albums with good responses and now in 2013 they are releasing their third record “The Darkening”.

The album starts with “Light Bearer” an unusual fast-paced song for a Doom Metal album but it is only the tip of the iceberg as the next song “The Age of Contempt” has a few elements of Thrash Metal, at least to my ears, following it comes “The Devil's Banquet” and from that point onward the album takes the traditional Doom Metal route of mid-paced songs. It is obvious that this band likes to do it their own way and not just repeat what has been done before, and that is just fine with me as they seem to know what they are doing. Together with the standard instruments is the presence of organ-sound keyboards that is just below the surface providing a very beautiful atmospheric sound without drowning the songs.

In conclusion I would like to say that this is a great record and highly recommended for fans of Doom Metal, but I couldn’t finish this review without mentioning the stunning work that was done in the booklet, of such quality I haven’t seen in a long while.
